HOW TO BECOME A LEADER

QUALIFICATIONS
Have a personal relationship with Christ as Lord and Savior.
Be active in a local church.
Be in good academic standing.
Be willing to work.

EXPECTATIONS
Seek to be growing in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Seek to be an example for others through your speech, actions, and faith.
This means no “MSG’s”…Mind altering drugs or alcohol,
Sex outside marriage or pornography, or Gossip.
Regularly attend Encounter Events.
Faithfully carry out your responsibilities on leadership team.
Attend weekly leadership meetings.
Have a conference with campus minister once a month.
Work in harmony and cooperation with other members of leadership team.
Participate in Prayer and Planning Meetings in May and November.
Pray regularly for Encounter.

NOTE: As a member of the Encounter Leadership Team you will together determine the direction for the entire ministry. You will be responsible for your own specific tasks, but you will also share in the tremendous responsibility of determining what kind of ministry we will be and in what ways we will reach our campus for Christ. You will be looked to as a spiritual leader as well as a task leader, and it is imperative that you be a person who walks with God. Being in leadership requires time, somewhat like the time it would require to take another class. It is a big responsibility, but there are even bigger rewards. Interviews will be scheduled and completed by March 31
New leadership is required to attend one leadership team meeting in April

 

ENCOUNTER TEAMS

Look over these teams, consider your gifts and passions, and figure out a couple of places you might like to serve. Most likely you will only be able or asked to serve as the leader of one team but there are always exceptions. If someone is already filling the position you feel called to, maybe that means the two of you could serve together. Flexibility is not just for gymnasts!

Leadership Team This team consists of every team leader. This team meets weekly with the Campus Minister. This is a time for the team leaders to come together to pray, report on the specific team they are overseeing, and keep the vision of the ministry. This team will also read books together with discussion in order to develop leadership skills.

Community Team Building community, reaching community. This team has a two-fold responsibility… 1. to plan and implement fellowship opportunities among students such as Study Break, volleyball, etc.
2. to plan and implement service opportunities for students to serve in the community such as Evansville Rescue Mission, Habitat, etc.

Connect Team This team is responsible for overseeing Freshman Move-In. This team is also responsible to create and implement effective ways of ministering to freshman and help them transition to college life.

Prayer Team This team is responsible for overseeing the prayer aspect of this ministry. This may include encouraging the students within the ministry to pray specific prayers, coordinating specific times of prayer, creating opportunities for prayer partners to begin, etc.

Evangelism/Outreach Team This team is responsible for planning and implementing all outreach opportunities on campus. For example, implement campus-wide evangelistic event or a table set up on campus. This team will also work with the Campus Minister to plan and implement an Evangelism Training.

Missions Team This team is responsible for informing the students about missions opportunities; for creating and implementing fund raising opportunities to collect money for missions; and for keeping in contact with any student missionaries who are serving from our ministry. Basic responsibility is to encourage giving and going.

Small Groups Team This team is responsible for overseeing the small group aspect of this ministry. This team will consist of all small group leaders. Each member of this team will meet with the Team Leader every other week to discuss their small group. The Team Leader must keep the Campus Minister updated on all small groups and the leaders.

Greek Ministry Team This team is responsible for any outreach this ministry does for Fraternities and Sororities. This responsibility will include planning and implementing events, etc necessary to minister to these specific students.

Intramural Ministry Team
This team is responsible for overseeing the intramural aspect of this ministry. This responsibility includes creating sports teams, signing teams up, and encouraging students through sports ministry.

Publicity Team This team is responsible for all publicity on and off campus for this ministry.

Worship Team This team is responsible for overseeing all aspects of worship. This responsibility includes securing musicians, instruments, necessary equipment, preparing power points, finding a speaker, giving announcements, and any other part of a worship experience desired. This includes both planning for worship and overseeing specific worship time.

International Ministry Team
This team is responsible for all international ministry opportunities. This responsibility includes planning and implementing any necessary ways to minister to the international students both on campus and off campus. For example, talk time to learn English, car rides, etc.
